Be prepared

“I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.” – Psalm 119:16

Robert’s mother called him to help her out in fetching a pot of water from the tap in the street. When Robert was going to the tap, he made the figure of a gun with his hand and shouted Bang! Bang! He imagined himself as a solider holding a gun and he was shooting. His ambition was to join Indian army. He often told his mother about his wish. His mother said, “God will be with you wherever you go and whatever you do if you read the Bible and pray to Him daily.” Robert chuckled and said that she was repeating the same sentence as she had no other work. But Robert’s mother had been praying to God to lead Robert in His path.

When Robert grew up, he became a soldier as he wished. He was getting ready to join Indian army. His mother bought all the necessary things for him. Then she gave him a New Testament and advised him to have it in his pocket always and not to forget to read it daily. Robert was busy with his training. He always remembered to have the New Testament in his pocket but he did not read it regularly. Years passed. A war broke out. The enemy shot at Robert. He thought that it was the end of him. But he was alive and safe. Actually, the bullet struck and penetrated his pocket and had gone and lodged in the New Testament so it did not enter his body. He was trembling with fear. The New Testament was almost damaged. But when he opened it, his eyes caught this verse. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). He wept realizing the unfailing love of Jesus that had saved him from death. From that minute onwards, he became the child of God. He read the Bible and prayed to God with yearning. He felt sorry for not listening to his mother’s words. He was happy to tell his mother how he was saved from death and how it had brought a change in him. Her joy knew no bounds. He bore a witness to the Lord in his work place.

Hi, kitties! Do you think your mother always tells you to read the Bible and pray? You can talk to God only through prayer and reading God’s words. If we do not do it, how can we prepare ourselves for the second coming of the Lord? Worldly life will come to an end. Only heavenly life is everlasting. So, to be set for eternity, let us read the word of God, pray and bear witness. Are you ready?
