Utilise what you have
“…you were faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things…” – Matthew 25:21
A certain king had a desire. He wished to invite the kings and courtiers of all his neighbouring countries for a grand tea party to gladden them. He planned to offer them the most excellent tea that would be deeply aromatic and with the scents of the dry tea leaves. He wished that the kings must relish and remember the mouthfeel of the tea even after their return to their countries. The king felt that the taste and flavour of the tea served in his palace was not the best. So, he commanded his soldiers to look for the highest quality tea leaves and the number one tea master. He himself went out in disguise to the tea plantations. Being tired, they just stopped at a small tea shop run by a youth in a mountain village.
The youth some how guessed that they were courtiers. He was troubled because he was running out of tea leaves to make tea for all of them. But the youth decided to avail the opportunity offered to him hoping that his life would be thriving. He went into his garden and brought something and prepared tea and served them. The king enjoyed the taste and the aroma of the tea and asked the tea master to tell him the secret behind his great tea. He stated that due to the shortage of tea leaves, he picked the petals of the rose flowers and orange peels and added them in correct proportion to make tea. Thus, he availed the opportunity, utilising the available resources. He got the golden opportunity to take part in the tea party and he secured a job in the palace as well.
In the Bible the receiver of 5 talents and the receiver of two talents utilised the talents and enjoyed the gain of it. Moreover, they were rewarded. But the receiver of one talent, despised the given talent and did not make use of it and was punished.
At times we also do not feel happy and content with the family, wealth, position, status, ability and talents given by God and without utilising the blessings for the glory of God we feel distressed by our desire and by what we do not own. Sometimes we bargain with God saying that if God does this good for us, we will offer this amount and do something for Him. It is not fair. We must avail what is being given to us faithfully. If we are faithful in the little things, we will be entrusted with greater things and will be blessed by God.
