Climb the summit of the rock
“…He (Jesus) went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God.” – Luke 6:12
It was a flight from the dark continent, Africa bound to Europe. A box containing poisonous snakes was left unlocked unknowingly. When the plane took off, accidently the lid opened and the snakes were slithering out towards the passengers’ seats. There was a loud cry from the passengers. Some fainted out of fright. Some were bitten by the snakes and they were suffering a lot. When the information was given to the pilot, he was panic and he asked the air traffic controller in which airport he should land the plane. The controller instructed him not to land. He thought for a while. Then he asked for the height of the flight. When the pilot said it was flying at a height of 4000 feet, the controller instructed him to fly much higher and higher. When the pilot kept on accelerating, the snakes did not get enough oxygen and they fainted. Thus, they were caught and kept in the box and it was locked. First aid was given to the fainted. Most of the passengers were saved except a few.
Beloved, if we want to escape from the evil power of the devil, we have to be lifted up. As long as the ruler of this world is here, he will be trying to devour us. But he becomes inactive, when we pray lifting up our souls. The wiles of the devil and his fiery darts shall not prosper.
In those days Jesus went out to the mountain and prayed to God all night. He could have prayed in some other place. He preferred a quiet and solitary place without any disturbance. So that he could pray continuously and receive strength over strength. We can also find refuge in Jesus, our eternal rock. If we cling to Him, we will be saved from disaster and pestilence and temptation and snare of the devil. Let us recall and find out how many hours were devoted to prayer by us. Only very little time was spent on prayer. A man of God wrote that if we had prayed for 5 minutes every day, in the whole year we offered prayer for just one day. What a pity! We spend enough time for each and every worldly matter. Have we made prayer a priority? Our victory over this world depends on our fervent prayer. How can we overcome satan when we do not pray at least an hour a day? Let us ponder and make a decision to remain steadfast in prayer. Great things rest in our commitment to prayer.
