Transition is necessary
“…be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2
A naughty little boy was playing the game “Hide and seek” with his friends on the roadside. He was looking for a place to hide himself. His eyes fell on the church close by. He had been to the church one time on the day of Christmas. Recollecting the past, he tried to hide inside the church. The pastor saw the little boy and made him sit near him and asked him, “Where is God?” The boy was perplexed and he did not know what reply to give. Second time the pastor raised his voice and asked the same question. The little boy got frightened and was sweating. Third time he banged on the table with his fist and he asked the same question in an angry tone anticipating a reply from him. The little boy ran head long into his house perspiring. His brother noticed him and asked why he was nervous. The little boy said, “Brother, we have got caught in a big problem; now god is not to be seen anywhere. He is missing. They suspect that we have stolen Him.”
Though it is a funny story, it makes us think. Have we ever felt the absence of God’s presence? How many people see Christ in us by our way of living and good works. The birth of Jesus Christ divided the period of world history into two namely BC and AD. Before accepting Christ, we would have led a miserable life. But after accepting Christ, there must be a distinct transition in our lives. Our work is not over with receiving salvation. It should bring in a noticeable change in our character and our way of life.
Moses grew up in the Pharaoh’s palace but he committed murder out of wrath. Then he was afraid and fled from Egypt. When God appeared and spoke to him from the midst of a burning bush, he became strong and courageous to be the leader to bring the Israelites out of their slavery in Egypt. Moreover, there was a change in his character and he was testified as the man who was humbler than anyone else on the face of the earth (Numbers 12:3). There was a tremendous transformation after his encounter with God. Repentance makes a complete change of direction towards God. If a man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things passed away and all things are new. So, let us do away with all our old traits of bitterness, wrath, indifference and lust of the flesh and reflect the image of Christ Jesus.
