Tortoise

"...How long halt ye between two opinions?..." - 1 Kings. 18:21

When we think of a tortoise, we think of its shell and how it moves slowly. Its shell is very strong. If it is in danger, it will withdraw into its shell. It can live in water and on land. Similarly, if we are in danger, we seek our own strength like this tortoise. There are many who are attached to the things of the world while remaining as if they are with the Lord.

In the Bible, the family of Ananias and Sapphira is a good example of this. In the time of the apostles, everyone lived together in one place. At that time, believers sold their lands and houses and laid them at the feet of the apostles. The family of Ananias and Sapphira also sold their lands and came to Peter. But Ananias kept a part of the price for himself, and Ananias laid the rest at Peter's feet. Then Peter took a piece of bread and said, "Why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit? You have not lied to men, but to God." When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and died. The same thing happened to Sapphira, who came without knowing this. Ananias sold the land to show himself obedient and holy like other believers. But if we give everything that belongs to us, what will we do for our needs? Ananias and Sapphira both took it, saying, "Let us have a little."

Yes, dear reader! We are like turtles who pretend to follow God by trusting in the things we have. When the people of Israel followed a foreign God and had the Lord as their God, Elijah said, "Why do you limp on between two opinions?" Jesus Christ also says that no one can serve two masters. (Matthew 6:24) We will decide today. Let us not be like the turtle but let us hold on to the Lord alone and walk in the ways of the Lord. Let us not rely on our own strength but look to Him. Let us receive blessings.
