What is done will be told

“Wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told…” – Matthew 26:13

In the year 1743, David Brainerd, a 25-year-old youth was sent to America, as a minister of gospel from the society in Scotland to propagate the Christian knowledge to the Native Americans. He ministered among Red Indians with heart and soul. He prayed on his knees all night. He was faithful and laborious. But soon he contracted tuberculosis. He was losing his strength and energy. His serious illness caused him to cough severely and to spit blood. He was just 29 when he passed away. Though his life was short, his ministry was a most fruitful one. An account of the life of Rev. David Brainerd taken from his diaries and journals were published. His biography has become a source of inspiration and encouragement to many Christians and convicts the Christian world in the matter of Christian service.

In the Holy Bible we read about a woman who came up to Jesus with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume and poured on His head as He was reclining at the table. At that time Jesus said, “Wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

Beloved readers, David Brainerd did his ministry only for four years. But his life history is such that we still speak about his ministry and its great awakening. His life sacrifice reached and touched the whole world challenging more people into Christian service. His mere name triggers the mind to think of his unequalled dedication. Missionaries find inspiration from his biography in pursuing their call. His single-minded perseverance in his ministry in the face of significant sufferings is a challenge to many youths and is still remembered and spoken about. The woman who poured perfume on Jesus’ head is still talked about. Let our lives be a sweet-smelling aroma to others. Even if our good works are left unrecognized here, they will be well pleased and accepted in the sight of God in Heaven.
