A Heart to be repaired

"...David strengthened himself in the Lord his God" - 1 Samuel 30:6

Carey was a great Bible translator. He was responsible for translating the entire Bible into two languages and the New Testament into 40 languages. He translated parts of the Bible into more than 12 Indian languages. He kept many of the important scrolls he had translated in his storage room. This was not a one-day or two-day effort, but the fruits of many years of hard and diligent work, day and night. There was no computer facility to store what he wrote that day, nor was there a Xerox facility to facilitate the writing process. Alas! All the important papers that were neatly written and arranged in order were reduced to ashes in a sudden fire within two hours. What a great loss. This unexpected loss was a disappointment that he could not bear. His heart was broken. He is William Carey, the father of missionaries.

David had a similar experience. By the time David and his men returned from the battle to Ziklag, the Amalekites had plundered Ziklag, burned it with fire, and David and the men's wives, sons, and daughters who were with him were taken captive. David and the people who were with him wept aloud, until they were no longer able to weep. David was greatly distressed. All the people said that they would stone him, David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Thus David had prepared his heart and kept it ready.

Beloved! To mend is to correct. William Carey completed all the translations he had to do without getting tired because he had prepared his heart well. Similarly, David also recovered everything he had lost as a result of having prepared his heart. It is difficult to prepare. However, if we prepare ourselves every day, every day is a victory for us. The Bible also warns that if we examine and know ourselves, we will not be judged. Therefore, let us prepare ourselves, our hearts, and all our things before the God who made us.
