“…Abraham… was called the friend of God.” – James 2:23
In this world there is no man without friends. In this industrial period there are friends who live in foreign countries beyond the seas. Our Lord God above all others calls us friends. When we are called “God’s friends” some of the scriptural persons come to our memory.
First among them was Enoch. Yes, daily God and Enoch used to walk. Then God took Enoch and dropped him in the house. One day both of them went far away talking to each other. When Enoch told God, “I have to return home”, God told, “We have come very far. From here your house is far away. My house is near. You come to My house.” said God and took Enoch with him. Then Enoch was not seen (Gen. 5:24). About 40 years before when my Sunday school teacher told method yet seems fresh in my recollection of mind. Yes, God loved Enoch.
God chose Abraham as His friend. God told Abraham that in advance His thought of destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. But Abraham pleads to God for the safety of Lot and his family from the destruction of God’s wrath.
On that day Martha and Mary both sisters came to Jesus and sent “Your beloved brother is sick” message. Are we in state like Martha and Mary to approach Jesus in relationship? Are we friends to Jesus? How is our relationship with God? Let us think a while. When we closely linked with Jesus in prayer, we become friends to Jesus. “Tell me who is your friend, and shall tell who you are” you might have heard this maxim! If Jesus is our friend, we shall reflect Him, isn’t it?
