Centurion

“Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.” - 1 Corinthians 10:24

In this devotion lets see about a centurion who is a Roman leader. He had lot of good habits in him even Jesus appreciated him. Shall we think about the good habits, let us try to get those if we lack those?

Caring his servant: Being in a highly respectable status in the society, he was also a government officer. He had lot of servants under his command. Despite holding so much authority and status, he is caring towards his servants. He was also kind enough to care about their wellbeing. That's why he went to meet Jesus to plead for his subordinate's health when he heard that Jesus came to Capernaum. He might have had lot of other prayers but he was selfless beyond everything.

He humbled himself: When Jesus was about to go with him to his house, he said " Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed." Since he was caring towards his servant, he must've been a good person in the society. But in his mind he had a thought that he is a sinner and an incomplete person. That's why he said that he isn't worthy for You to come to my house". In general human nature is that, we won't deny of a famous pastor or a celebrity wants to come to our house. Because we can proudly say " he comes to our house, he is close to our family." But this centurion humbled himself.

My dear! do we care about the wellbeing of those who work under us or in our house. or do we tell them, "are you sick ? but still finish these work and take rest"? Secondly what do we think about ourselves? Do we think that we are good people just because we have a good reputation! or do we think how is my heart in the eyes of Jesus and humble ourselves! Let us think.
